Versatility
Kamados are the most versatile single cooker in the backyard market. They handle low-and-slow smoking (225°F), all-purpose grilling (400–550°F), pizza (700°F+), and high-heat searing. The same ceramic body excels at each, with different setups (heat deflector for indirect, no deflector for direct).
Pellet grills are versatile within a narrower temperature window. They excel at smoking and roasting but struggle to reach the sear temperatures that kamados handle effortlessly.
Convenience
Pellet grills win convenience by a clear margin. Set temperature, walk away. Kamados require lighting charcoal, adjusting vents to dial in temperature, and managing fuel for long cooks.
