Grill Maintenance Checklist

Before every cook

  • Preheat for 10–15 minutes on high.
  • Brush grates with a coiled, bristle-free, or nylon brush.
  • Lightly oil the grates with a high-smoke-point oil.
  • Check fuel level (propane tank or pellet hopper).
  • Inspect hoses and regulator connection.

After every cook

  • Run on high for 10 minutes to burn off residue.
  • Brush grates while still hot.
  • Close charcoal/kamado vents to extinguish safely.
  • Allow to cool completely, then cover.

Monthly

  • Empty and clean grease trays or drip pans.
  • Wipe exterior with mild soap and damp cloth.
  • Test ignition on every burner.
  • Deep scrub grates if buildup is heavy.

Seasonal (spring + fall)

  • Deep clean firebox, burners, and flavorizer bars.
  • Inspect burners for clogs and even flame patterns.
  • Clear spider/insect screens on gas grill venturi tubes.
  • Re-season cast iron grates or griddle tops.
  • Vacuum pellet firepot and check the auger.

Before winter storage

  • Empty pellets from hopper and auger.
  • Disconnect and store propane tank outdoors, shaded.
  • Oil cast iron and stainless against oxidation.
  • Store covered, ideally under cover or in a garage.
